Major news outlets have been running headlines about Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s recent claims that the Duterte family is hiding filth about their own involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Trillanes went as far as claiming that Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte is linked to a shabu shipment mentioned by broker Mark Taguba. Paolo has since then called it a “lie”.

With the allegations made, Trillanes says that President Rodrigo Duterte knows that Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon is knowledgeable about an inside filth, thus, refuses to have the latter removed from his position.

Paolo, thus, laments on the state of mainstream media where they pick up on headlines that would not only harm one’s reputation, but is based on “unfounded claims and perverted admissions.”

Instead of the citizenry being able to rely on fair and unbiased reporting, Paolo says that major media outlets rely on “witch hunts and fishing trips” to get news and spread invalid or unverified information.

Journalists invest heavily on reporting about interesting lies as long as it rakes in the profit, although Paolo admits that not all journalists are like that.

In his full post on Facebook, Paolo said,

"With the exception of a number of those who are performing their jobs well and guided strongly by the tenets of professionalism and ethics, it is deeply lamentable how some members of the Philippine media have shamed the industry, themselves, their profession, their fellow Filipinos, and this country by resorting to cheap witch hunts and fishing trips instead of practicing fair and unbiased reporting -- with the objective of smearing people's reputation by reporting even unfounded claims and perverted admissions.

These journalists, who are quick to judge and are quicker to persecute people and public officials, are so obsessed with lies as they see truth in the filthy, the gunky, and the rotten.

Kaulaw na lang gayud."
