Comelec chair Bautista allegedly received commission from law firm of Smartmatic during 2016 elections

Home / Opinion / Comelec chair Bautista allegedly received commission from law firm of Smartmatic during 2016 elections

Further investigation is ongoing for Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairperson Andres Bautista as new developments surface, one of which is his having received commission from a law firm that handled Smartmatic’s case.

Smartmatic is the company responsible for the PCOS machines used last 2016 elections. Despite being fraught with anomalies, Smartmatic was still chosen by the Philippine government to automate the election process.

Because of these developments in Bautista’s case, Senators Tito Sotto and Grace Poe and Kabayang Representative Harry Roque calls for an investigation into Bautista’s alleged ill-gotten wealth amounting to over Php 1 billion.

Atty. Glenn Chong pointed out that a certain congressman ally of Vice President Leni Robredo is trying to defend the COMELEC Chairperson over the allegations made against him.

Chong said that the House’s call for investigation will also reveal the intentions of those who seek justice and those who seek to protect Bautista in order to protect themselves.

Bautista may have deemed his wife’s actions as extortion, but Chong said that it is merely karma for having fooled the whole country and robbing the Filipinos of what is rightfully theirs.

In his full post on Facebook, Chong said,

"EXTORTION O KARMA?

Nanawagan ngayon sina Sen. Tito Sotto, Sen. Grace Poe at Kabayan Rep.
