Director Manny Castañeda: Rappler must stop calling Resorts World siege as terrorist attack

Home / Viral / Director Manny Castañeda: Rappler must stop calling Resorts World siege as terrorist attack

Actor/Director Manny Castañeda calls out Rappler CEO Maria Ressa as a journalist who lost her credibility by obstinately insisting that the shootout and fire in Resorts World Manila was a terrorist attack.

Government officials have already clarified that it was not a terrorist operation, but a vengeful scheme of a “derange gambling addict”, Castañeda pointed out.

However, Rappler continues to imply in its reports that it was a terrorist siege despite sources disclaiming it.

Castañeda underlines that these implications of Rappler are based on its personal speculations turned into factual news reporting, which he believes threatens credibility.

The former actor emphasized that Rappler news report on the casino tragedy shows its “yellow slip” by being biased in their information.

In his full post on Facebook, Castañeda said,

"So, as it turns out, the Resorts World incident wasn't a terrorist attack after all but an act committed by a deranged gambling addict. However, from the day it started, Rappler has continually implied to the point of insisting, that it was a product of terrorism and the premise on which it is based were mere opinions and observations.

Clearly Maria Ressa's Rappler is engaged in speculative journalism where opinions and criticisms are treated as facts specially if it is detrimental to the present administration and/or to Pres. Duterte.

It is evident that Ressa has lost her credibility as a journalist. She has no right to claim objectivity and unbiased reporting as her yellow slip is in full view."
