United Nations Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary, and arbitrary killings Agnes Callamard is under fire after her series of tweets debunking the notion that shabu affects the brain, however, a netizen argued Callamard’s claims by citing her personal experience.

“Don't fool me Agnes, I know how it is to live with a shabu addicted daughter. Her marriage with an addicted husband failed. She left her toddler because she is out of her mind,” Carmelita Ybañez-Mangubat said in retort to Callamrd’s statements that shabu has no effect on the brain.

Mangubat further complained that it was because of the human rights law that Callamrd defended that delayed rehabilitation for Mangubat’s daughter.

“It took me a long while to send her to rehab BECAUSE of that human rights law. I can't put her in rehab unless I have a medical certificate that she has lost her mind to drugs,” Mangubat shared.

The mother recalled the time and finances it took to make the court approve her peititon to put her daughter into rehab, factors that she feels hinder other parents from rehabilitating their drug-addicted children.

"Don't fool me Agnes, I know how it is to live with a shabu addicted daughter. Her marriage with an addicted husband failed. She left her toddler because she is out of her mind. It took me lots of time and money to restore her to her real self. It took me a long while to send her to rehab BECAUSE of that human rights law. I can't put her in rehab unless I have a medical certificate that she has lost her mind to drugs. It took me a long time and money to get to court to approve my petition for her rehab. At last I did and found out then she was admitted as a PATIENT. She was in rehab 6 months and now she is gainfully employed after being sober for more than 10 years. That human rights law deprived me of helping her at the right time before damaged to her marriage could have been prevented. Going through that, I felt compassion on parents who can't go to court, spend time and money for that petition. That's my experience with the shabu addict and the law. So sad parents are deprived of their right to help just to give children their right to exist, but then become a menace to family and unproductive citizen of the country. So sad really."
