Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. expressed his support for President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao during his interview on News5 claiming that it has a basis.

Marcos claimed that Duterte, as the President, knows a lot about the what is really going on in the Marawi attack. Terrorist attacks did not just happen in Marawi City, Lanao del sur, but previous attacks occurred in Bohol and other parts of the country. He expressed his trust and confidence in the President.

Duterte declared Martial Law in Mindanao because the Maute attack is a threat to national security, especially that the group is linked with Islamic State of Iraq and Iran (ISIS) which is renowned as a major and global terrorist group.

Marcos remarked that many Filipinos still seem surprised with the declaration when in fact Duterte had been overtly and repeatedly hinting it before due to previous terrorist attacks and other threats to national and international security.

The former senator was puzzled over why there are still citizens who are confused why Duterte “cut his trip” in Russia to go back to the Philippines when it had been obvious that the siege in Marawi City needed Duterte.

Duterte’s return to the Philippines actually hastened military response in the affected area because he was able to focus on the alignment of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Marcos perceived Duterte’s return as having greatly aided the victims and survivors of the Marawi attack, and Filipinos feel safer and more confident with the presence of the President in the country.
