"Ewan ko nga kung bakit ganun naging comment niya. Plain view pa lang, kahit wala nang magbigay ng salaysay, kita na natin na may violation of law," said the senator after Dela Rosa tried defending the police involved in setting up the secret jail.
The secret jail was discovered last week after the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) conducted a surprise investigation and found 11 inmates detained inside the small space hidden behind a book shelf in Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) office.
The inmates reported that they had to pay P40,000 to P200,000 in exchange for freedom.
In response to the maltreatment of the police station, National Capital Region Police Office Oscar Albayalde has ordered the relief of the police station's commander, Superintendent Roberto Domingo, and all members of the station's DEU.
On the other hand, Dela Rosa defended the secret jail issue.
"Ang pulis ko walang ginawang kalokohan," Dela Rosa said.
He also questioned the timing of the CHR's surprise inspection, which was done as the country was hosting the 30th ASEAN Summit.
Dela Rosa’s statements stirred ire from the senator who pointed out the the former “missed the point entirely’.
Defending policemen for maintaining an unlivable secret prison cell hidden behind a book shelf inside a police station is incomprehensible," Lacson said.
