With the recent pronouncement of Magdalo Representative Gary Alejano to raise his impeachment rap against President Rodrigo Duterte in the International Criminal Court (ICC), former Department of Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Santiago tells him to stop meddling in the President’s plans for the country.

Santiago addressed both Alejano and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV in his open letter where he urged the two politicians to make better use of their positions.

“We need jobs owing to our big and still growing population. We need to protect the next generation of Filipinos from the evils of drugs. We need to build build build our infrastructures. We need a steady source of power and strong communications systems. We need to strengthen our security. We need to catch up with the developed countries,” Santiago emphasized.

The former secretary admits admiring the intellect of Trillanes and Alejano, even saying that they are “among the best minds that PMA [Philippine Military Academy] had produced”, however Santiago expressed dismay over their focused effort to unseat Duterte.

This is contrary to what the surveys speak of the Filipinos’ support for Duterte with an over 80% approval rating.

Trillanes and Alejano argue that the surveys are inadequate measures of the President’s performance, but Snatiago argues that these are measurements that show that the government is now headed towards “the right direction”.

Santiago also expressed how “unfortunate” it would be if, in the event of Duterte’s impeachment, Vice President Leni Robredo will sit as the next highest official in the land given that she does not possess “strong leadership”.

Instead of making efforts to unseat Duterte, Santiago suggested that Trillanes and Alejano leave him to do his job.

In his full post on Facebook, Santiago said,

"A brotherly advice to Magdalo's Trillanes and Alejano:

You were among the best minds that PMA had produced. You were equally among the most idealistic and courageous officers that I know and, to be honest, I admire your guts and perseverance and, in fact, I supported you when you were in crisis!

The fact that your party won for you some seats in both Houses of Congress is a testament to our people's recognition of your past deeds that you may now be unknowingly destroying.

The Academy's Honor Code does not allow anyone to dig for evidence to pin down a cadet. It requires reporting of violations that one chances upon or committed in his presence, but here it seems that you have been so pre-occupied and obsessed to unseat PRRD who has an 80% approval rating. You said it is not the survey that matters, but is that not the measure that our government is headed in the right direction? to what the people want? to the fulfillment of a campaign promise that catapulted the mayor to the presidency?

You tried to unseat him in a political exercise, but you lost. It would have been unfortunate if you won and seat an unprepared VP to a position that requires strong leadership. You have used your constitutional right but did not have your way.

Maybe it is time to re-think your position. There lies a big task ahead. We need jobs owing to our big and still growing population. We need to protect the next generation of Filipinos from the evils of drugs. We need to build build build our infrastructures. We need a steady source of power and strong communications systems. We need to strengthen our security. We need to catch up with the developed countries. Let PRRD do his job!

WILL YOU JUST COOPERATE AND WAIT FOR THE NEXT POLLS? "They also serve those who only stand and wait" (Elegy Written on a County Church Yard)"
