Canadian political scientist criticizes ABS CBN: 'I have a hard time seeing any value in your news organization'

The way ABS CBN covers reports on President Rodrigo Duterte has caught the attention of a Canadian political scientist who views their style of reporting as more of an "attack" against Duterte.

Amir Assadollahi said that even as an outside spectator he has seen the benefits that Duterte has brought in to the Philippines, however, the giant media outfit tends to slant Duterte's "literal" and "historical" terms.

Assadollahi also cited the incident in Turkey whose president's security guards drubbed protesters "on US soil" and he noted that US did not intervene in the events.

He put to light the "values of freedom and democracy" in the US that is now seemingly declining.

"The U.S. is a friend of the Philippines, but the Philippines needs to think what is best for the Philippines and not what is best for the U.S. or E.U., and stop begging for handouts and stop looking like something of no importance that is not deserved to be included in the big leagues as a high roller," Assadollahi said.

The political scientist also noted how erroneous figures of the anti-drug war are being circulated by Philippine media and he warned that this practice was also inherent in the Hitler propaganda.

"You talk about some strange numbers, and you keep repeating. You must have heard what Hitler said about repeating lies, right? "If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed,"" Assadollahi said.

He said to ABS CBN that they do not have to agree with Duterte's policies, however, they should be responsible of how they report his speeches. He even mocked the news organization that even when he is the foreigner he seems to understand better what Duterte is trying to relay.

In his full post on Facebook, Assadollahi said,

"Aren't you getting tired of the same line of attack?!

It is getting really boring, and I have a hard time seeing any value in your news organization. Consider that as a constructive feedback and not as a criticism, because you don't take criticism very well at all.

Even I as a foriegn observer can see what your President is saying and I don't need to speak Tagalog or be a Filipino to understand what he is aiming to achieve. You got yourself a good president, someone who actually cares for your country and the Filipinos, and someone who is tirelessly hardworking. In my life time, I have not seen anyone as dedicated as him in bringing the Philippines back on the global map. His strategies are sound and well calculated, he does not do anything out of whim, and definitely he is an open book if you really want to read him. What he says is the honest truth, and yes, truth hurts and sometimes "honesty is a lonely thing" as John Lenon wrote, but that does not mean you should play with what he says or does and twist and turn things as you feel fit for you.

You obviously do not read history of the world at all. He talks in literal terms and in historical terms. All empires and all powers collapse and fall, and that is a historical fact, and you rather than understanding that simple fact that even a junior high school student should know by studying the world history, you take it and turn it into your own sick and twisted game for your own amusement.

Just a few days ago we all saw how the Turkish president's security guards beat up the protesters without provocation while on the U.S. soil and while their president was watching. Don't you think that is a failure of the U.S. democracy and values right there?! Don't you think that is the sign of weakening of the U.S. values of freedom and democracy that once the strength of those values made the U.S.A. great and an envy to the eyes of the world?!

You talk about some strange numbers, and you keep repeating. You must have heard what Hitler said about repeating lies, right?

"If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed."

Hitler did that, and you are doing the same thing as he did to convince everyone a "big lie."

Everyone knows that from the day your president was elected to lead your nation, your country became one of the most invested country in the region. He has fixed many problems the previous government had ignored or purposely created. He has brought the Philippines and the region one step closer to peace and prosperity. He has put the Philippines' national interests ahead of the foriegn nations' interests - something that your previous governments in the last 30 years have been willingly ignoring!

The U.S. is a friend of the Philippines, but the Philippines needs to think what is best for the Philippines and not what is best for the U.S. or E.U., and stop begging for handouts and stop looking like something of no importance that is not deserved to be included in the big leagues as a high roller. Now the Philippines can enter into the big leagues because of your President.

Every economist knows that the U.S. economic power is not as strong as it used to be, and every strategist knows that all the countries around the world need to shift their foriegn policies, but somehow your news organization cannot get it though its (your) thick heavy skulls filled with cement.

Your President has made your country be seen as a power player, and he recognizes the importance of the Philippines in the global market economy, and to do that he must reform the Philippines as fast as possible, but somehow you people (the thick headed journalists and corporate news organizations) can't get that though your head.

I don't have to agree with all the policies of your President to support or understand him, as you don't have to either, but you have to let the people (the foriegn nations and outsiders) better understand his speeches. I am a foreigner without knowing your language so much, but it looks like you are the ones who need interpreters to understand his speeches. It is actually a sad thing to observe that in you.

On a sarcastic note, let me know if you needed an interpreter to understand your president. I'll be gentle to explain things to you as if I was explaining it to a ten-year-old.

Don't be mad if you felt my commentary made you feel I was putting you down - certainly that was not my intention and you may have misinterpreted things again - I just wanted to give you a constructive feedback, one that you could understand in a language and tone of voice that you are familiar with.

  1. Well as a Filipino citizen i am glad that someone from the outsider notice this. Actually this Media is very prominent to slant President Duterte for a long time. I call them International Propagandist Media Network including CNN Philippines whos reputation is already been smash by the people. The quality of their news is more to attack and more to criticize the current administration whilst the previous government done nothing.
As a citizen we don't have enough voice to be heard against this Media they stands as our voice to the world but they never tell or they never deliver the true voice of the people they deliver whats "OLIGARCH" or their Boss was saying knowing the owner of this Network are "Lopes" and NINOY AQUINO's mates in the jail back long time ago.
From that you will see the loyalty from the previous admin (Aquino) and trying to win the crown so they can monopolize or they continue having access to so called "MONOPOLY GAME" in the country.
This Media never see the difference of current administration to Aquino time...

Airport has a huge different now comparing back 2 1/2 yrs ago. This media hate to say or tell or to notice the impact of President Duterte.
Although Philippine AirLines (PAL) is keeping their services poor from their airbuses to their crews except the pilots but specially the liars front desk. Man, believe me very disappointing. PAL exclusively using Terminal 2 which is very boring airport. There is a food stand at terminal 2 but all are close and they have flight schedule of 12:30am imagine your belly if you check in earlier.
PAL in some regional airports like Catarman Northern Samar the frontdesk and crews and some in Terminal 2 services are very poor. You have to pay Tax Travel and Regulatory Fees.
Well, damn! what is the tax we paying for our Plane Tickets is this different kind of taxes??? To the PAL if not cancelled...DELAYED for 3 to 4 times...Terrific!
So, i decided...never to PAL anymore.

Back to this Propagandist Media Network we have respect for our selves as a citizen or as individual of the land.
This kind of doing will never be thrown back to the land but to you Networks coz you work as private sectors.

To the Canadian Political Scientist AMIR ASSADOLLAHI dont stop. What you have notice is beyond the reality of this propagandist or international media network who try to destabilize the administration of this current time.

ABSCBN will charge you and file a lawsuit against you from what you have said or what you noticed but this Network think they are free of charge of slanting the President in such lies!!!

The judge or the court should acquit you from this silliness so help me GOD!

  3. It's painful to see that there are businessmen and politicians who will result to these kinds of propaganda. Just to make sure they'll have their ways. It's 2017 and as I can see there are still businessmen, politicians and religious leaders who will gang up against the people they serve just to be rich. These kinds of leaders aren't needed. Karma will befall whoever these leaders are.

  6. ABIAS-CBN is not the peoples' voice. They claimed they gave us paradise but instead they gave us glass prison. They let us see only what is at the horizon but never let us walk to. By 2020, I will be there celebrating their permanent shut down. Your days are numbered, Lopezes and Cojuangcos. I will be laughing while I drink from your ancestors' skulls.

  7. personally, I do not find the article in question biased. I've posted the link below, maybe people should see for themselves and think for themselves before readily believing someone just because he is a 'scientist'.

  10. Oligarchies are just exagerrated of the delima of martial law being backed again.. that's why they triggered one his declaration in Mindanao only where the real rebellion of terrorism is there. Another way to commend the president's work after many unbiased headlines went up.

  11. You hit the nail on the head. Ramapant "envelopmental" journalism at it's best, meaning they publish news based on the terms of their pockets. ABS-CBN, pronounced as A BIAS CBN, is a known supporter of LP Pres. bet in the past election, and has long been a supporter of whever is in power. A then bankcrupt company has blossomed when Pres. Cory Aquino came into power, and the owner of ABS-CBN the Oligarch Lopez has been dictating the terms of Phil.politics by pouring billions of pesos to their candidate with the vested interest to protect their businesses. It's not only Lopez bit there are more Oligarchs that are dying to discredit President Duterte because he is incorruptible, principles and pro-people, unlike previous Presidents who don't care about the 80% Filipino masses who wanted to experience a comfortable life. The change is coming and the Oligarchs don't want to share their treasure to the poor Filipinos. They want to carry their wealth to the their graves. They torture the vast majority of Filipinos by bribing the politicians so their businesses will continue for many more decades at the expense of hard working Pinoys. Pls see attached link, how the A BIAS CBN BEHAVE during the last May's Presidential Election.
