Breaking: Duterte wins 2017 Time 100 poll of world’s most influential people
President Rodrigo Duterte won 5% of the “yes” votes in the 2017 TIME 100 poll which made him the winner followed by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Pope Francis, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg all of whome garnered 3% of the “yes” votes.
TIME 100 is an annual poll where the news company asks readers and netizens to vote whom they think should be included in the top 100 most influential people in the world.
Duterte has ran headlines on controversial issues about his anti-drug campaign which elicited criticism and attention from both local and international audience.
Amongst his fiercest critics are political leaders such as Vice President Leni Robredo who has made claims about a palit-ulo scheme in police operations on illegal drugs and other criticisms.
However, Pro-Dutertes praise Duterte on his intensified campaign against drugs and corruption which, as Duterte claims, is for the benefit of the poor in the country.
Former winners of the TIME 100 poll were Bernie Sanders in 2016 and President Valdimir Putin in 2015.
TIME will release their official TIME 100 list on April 20, 2017 (Thursday).
