Ericson Deferia Blacquio was the security guard of Hamilton Heights, Las Piñas City who killed one of its residents Matthew Caldwell after a heated argument over Caldwell’s entry to the subdivision because Caldwell had not yet fully paid his dues.
Blacquio escaped with an accomplice Alfredo Bacornay after the former shot Caldwell in the face. They were both charged for murder and a warrant of arrest was issued against them by Las Piñas Judge Ismael Duldulao.
Blacquio was eventually pinned down in Cadiz City where SPO1 Joshua Barile, who led a Regional Intelligence Unit 6 team, was in charge of carrying out the arrest of Blacquio.
The former security guard opened fire at the team despite initial talks trying to convince him to surrender peacefully.
Barile’s team fired a warning shot, however, Blacquio continued open firing at the team which prompted the police unit to shoot the suspect’s left leg.
Blacquio was rushed to the hospital, but declared dead on arrival due to blood loss. No one in the assigned police unit was harmed.
The police recovered from Ericson a 357 revolver with six empty shells inside its cylinder, a hand grenade, and an improvised shotgun with two ammunition.
Additionally, Blacquio’s brother, Edmar Blacquio, was arrested for obstruction of justice after he tried preventing the police team from arresting Blacquio.
