Duterte also said he is planning to go to Pag-Asa Island to raise the Philippine flag on Independence Day.
"We tried to be friends with everybody, but we have to maintain our jurisdiction now, at least the areas under our control. And I have ordered the Armed Forces to occupy all the so many islands. I think nine or 10. Lagyan ng structures and the Philippine flag," Duterte said.
"Pati iyong ano, basta iyong bakante na iyong atin na tirahan na natin. Mukhang agawan kasi ito ng isla e and what's ours now at least kunin na natin and make a strong point there that it's ours," he added.
According to GMA News, the president said that he planned to change the name Benham Rise to Philippine Ridge and he supports the repair of the airport in Pag-asa Island.
“We have to fortify. I must build bunkers there or houses and make provisions for habitation,” he added.
“The money is there. I don’t’ know how the army of the engineering battalion would do it but the development there has my full support. Gagastos ako diyan sa fortification diyan,” he said.
“I will officially claim it as ours and rename it. I will call it Philippine Ridge,” Duterte said.
