This was the statement neophyte Senator Manny Pacquaio retorted to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV after the latter said during an interview “kagaya nung ibang senator na nagki-claim ng nagkaroon sila ng spiritual renewal, naging santo ba sila pagkatapos nun?”

Trillanes issued the statement in the context of retired SPO3 Arturo Lascañas claiming that he has undergone spiritual renewal after his dialysis which prompted Lascañas to recant his testimonies last October 2016 and claim that President Rodrigo Duterte is involved with the Davao Death Squad (DDS).

Pacquiao took offense in Trillane’s statement deeming it to have been directed at him.

“The statement of my colleague is very offended to me because para bang hindi akong totoong tao (sic). Para bang yung pagiging Christian ko ay fake. That’s my understanding. That’s a very offended to me (sic),” Pacquaio said during his privilege speech at the Senate.

“Just to remind everyone, na nag aral naman tayo para marunong mag respeto sa kapwa. And like I said, when you got interviewed outside by the media, do not attack your colleagues or else…hindi naman natin iniwanan ang bayag bayag natin. Dala dala natin yung bayag natin,” Pacquiao added.

Despite the clash of statements, Pacquiao recognizes that Trillanes has his right to free speech.

“Wala po akong intention na pigilin ang karapatan ng ating kasama. Just don’t give us a bad name. It is good to be reminded that our primary role is to legislate and when we conduct hearings or investigations, they should always be in aid of legislation,” he said.

Trillanes insists that his statements were not directed at Pacquiao, however the former apologized still for what he said.

“Let me apologize to Senator Pacquiao if he was offended but hindi ganun ang intention,” Trillanes said.
