Enrile labels Alejano’s impeachment case vs Duterte as “useless”
Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile trashed Magdalo Representative Gary Alejano’s impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte by labelling it as a “useless exercise” since it seems farfetched that the President would be impeached.

“First of all, impeachment is a political act and you need 16 senators to declare him impeached. I don’t think they can get it,” Enrile said even adding that the grounds in which Alejano provided for the case cannot impeach Duterte.
“He’s the President for heaven’s sake. He represents the sovereignty of the Philippines…Why should you prevent him from making a decision for the country? He’s elected for that purpose,” Enrile said.
Alejano charged Duterte on issues of culpable violation of the Constitution, bribery, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and other high crimes, however Enrile holds that these will be ineffective against the administration.
“I cannot read any culpable violation [of the Constitution] for our President to do that,” Enrile expressed.
“Kalokohan ‘yun. Hindi naiintindihan ang Constitution ng mga taong yun,” he added.
