Who’s the idiot now? Jim Paredes says Gaviria caught Pablo Escobar, Duterte let Peter Lim escape
President Duterte recently called former Colombian President Cesar Gaviria an “idiot” for lecturing him on how to implement his campaign against illegal drugs.
In a speech of Duterte at the 115 founding anniversary of the Bureau of Customs, he said,
“To tell you frankly, sabi nila 'yung [they say that] Colombia [leader] has been lecturing about me. That idiot.”
Meanwhile, Jim Paredes a Liberal Party supporter (LP) and known critic of Duterte has another issue about what Duterte said.
“Before you call the Colombian President an idiot, remember: he caught the biggest drug lord Pablo Escobar. You let Peter Lim escape,” Paredes tweeted.
In an opinion article of New York Times, Gaviria said "Throwing more soldiers and police at the drug users is not just a waste of money but also can actually make the problem worse."
"Locking up nonviolent offenders and drug users almost always backfires, instead strengthening organized crime," he added. "That is the message I would like to send to the world and, especially, to President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines. Trust me, I learned the hard way," he added.
In July, Duterte met with Peter Lim, a suspected drug lord. Lim was allowed to walk away since no proof or formal charges has been filed yet.
