President Duterte gives goods and financial aid to Surigao survivors
President Rodrigo Duterte personally distributed relief goods on February 12, 2017 (Sunday) to the survivors of the 6.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Surigao City last February 10, 2017 (Friday).

Around 500 evacuees received food and necessities in the city’s gymnasium out of a total of 1, 034 listed by the Surigao City government, although the 4Ps beneficiaries were given priority. He also gave financial aid to a family whose member died during the calamity.
To expedite the distribution of relief goods, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary was tasked by the President to clear all damaged roads.
The President also order the restoration of electricity in the city after some parts of Surigao already managed to revive their electricity.
President Duterte was thankful that damages to properties and lives were only minimal. Reports reveal that only six people were killed and 100 slightly injured.
During his speech, the President mentioned that the unfortunate incident did not cause too big a damage compared to Typhoon Yolanda’s damage to Tacloban, Leyte on November 2013 in which “one could not drive a vehicle on the street of Tacloban after the typhoon Yolanda because of the dead bodies.”
