Alvarez to Cabinet members who disagree with Duterte: Kung ayaw mong maniwala, kung ayaw mong maniwala
Wednesday, February 1, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said that cabinet members who do not agree with President Rodrigo Duterte’s push for lowering the age of criminal liability should resign.
“As Cabinet secretaries, you cannot contradict with the views of the President. Kung ayaw mong maniwala do’n, eh ‘di mag-resign ka,” he said.
“Hindi puwede ‘yung Cabinet members will have a separate view sa Presidente kasi alter ego sila ng Presidente, eh,” he added.
“If they don’t agree with the President, they are free to resign. I think it’s just right that they resign,” he further said.
The lowering of age of criminal liability from 15 years old to nine years old are opposing by the The Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Commission of Human Rights.
DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo said this “violates the fundamental principles of social protection of children, as provided for by law, and by international treaties, and internationally-accepted standards and principles.”
“There is a need to distinguish between making children responsible for their actions, and criminalizing them,” she added.
