It has been long established that a rising number of people have chosen not to trust the mainstream media ever since articles criticizing President Rodrigo Duterte came out.

Things became grave when the issue on killings broke out. Critics have become bolder on their stance, and the fanatics even more so.

Taking the cue from the President’s relentless attacks on both human rights advocates and the concept of human rights itself, too many people now equate human rights advocates with protectors and defenders of drug lords, to be ridiculed, pilloried, and humiliated,” Lingao said on his Facebook status published December 1, 2015.

“How have we come to this?” He asked.

He pointed a finger to Duterte for branding the media as a corrupt and bias, which in turn changed the people’s perception on what used to be the most reliable source of information.

Ever since the President liberally branded the media as corrupt and biased, people have also taken the cue and branded newsmen who write anything remotely critical of government or policy as “bayaran” or “presstitute”.

Lingao subtly tried to remind the President that his words carry an enormous weight and there is barely any room for his personal frustrations or black humor, as he called it.

As we have clearly seen in the past five months, people take their cue from the President. His supporters take their cue from the President.

He also refuted the government’s claim which was that people should judge more of the President’s actions rather than his words because according to him, the President’s words are most likely to “spur men into action.”

Conclusively, he pointed out that Chico Gascon of LP is the chairman of CHR while his commissioner is Gwendolyn Pimental-Gana who is the sister of Senate President Koko Pimental, who is the president of PDP-Laban.

"Time was when a human rights advocate was seen as a respected defender of the community. But times have changed drastically in little more than five months. Taking the cue from the President's relentless attacks on both human rights advocates and the concept of human rights itself, too many people now equate human rights advocates with protectors and defenders of drug lords, to be ridiculed, pilloried, and humiliated. How have we come to this? There is a parallel to this problem: Ever since the President liberally branded the media as corrupt and biased, people have also taken the cue and branded newsmen who write anything remotely critical of government or policy as "bayaran" or "presstitute." No evidence necessary at all.

"When the Chief Executive speaks his thoughts, he has to bear in mind the enormity that the weight of his words carries. There is little room for personal frustrations or black humor, especially when the most powerful person in the land talks about killing people, whether they be human rights defenders or drug pushers. Why is that? As we have seen clearly in the past five months, people take their cue from the President. His supporters take their cue from the President. The entire government machinery takes its cue from the President. He is, after all, the President.

"Palace officials can not dismiss these concerns by telling us to judge the President's actions more than his words. Most especially if his words are likely to spur his men into action.

"Dagdag lang. Many of the comments below only serve to reinforce my point. Unfortunately.

"At idagdag ko na rin, para dun sa mga gustong bigyan ng kulay pulitika ang issue ng human rights. Marami kasi rito, ganun magisip. Oo nga, si Chito Gascon ng LP ang Chairman ng CHR. Sino ang kasamang Commissioner ni Gascon? Ah, si Gwendolyn Pimentel-Gana. Sino po siya? Kapatid lang naman ni Senate President Koko Pimentel, Presidente ng PDP-Laban ni Digong."
