CBCP vs. Duterte: Sex and Filipino Catholic Priests
Last year before being officially sworn into office, President Rodrigo Duterte caused quite an alarm when he called out the Roman Catholic Church for its abuses.

Duterte accused the church of sexual deviance, an episode of incest, and a pope having many children. He was referring to Pope John X who had a romantic relationship with Theodora who was a Roman senatrix.
"You had one episode of incest...A pope having so many children and committing incest...Alam ba ng Pilipinas yan? Na ang tatay ang pope at anak niya, sila rin? Alam ba nila yan? Ikinuwento ba nila yan sa taong Pilipino?" Duterte said.
Meanwhile, the CBCP just ignored Duterte’s tirade and simply said that they would rather want to hear about the government platform of Duterte.
This conflicting situation followed after Bishop Villegas issued a statement that strongly criticized Duterte.
“Is this the leadership by example that Mayor Duterte excites in us? Is this the leadership by example that makes a public official deserving of the title ‘honorable’?
However, in 2002, the CBCP admitted that there have been cases of grave sexual misconduct by clerics and religious in the Philippines.
“We your bishops are now in the process of drafting through a wide consultation with experts from among the lay people, religious men and women, a protocol that addresses the various types of sexual abuse and misconduct,” said CBCP President Rolando Quevelo.
Here are the four cases perpetuated by members of the church hierarchy, as listed by Monsignor Nicanor Bautista:
1. Antipolo Bishop Crisostomo Yalung; his romantic affair bore two children
2. Pampanga’s Fr. Jeffrey Louie Maghirang; cam-to-cam fun with a woman who was married
3. Ifugao’s Fr. Gabriel Madangeng Jr.; rape of three young religious girls
4. Cebu’s Fr. Apolinario Mejorada; domination of four altar boys
Not a single one of these priests were ever arrested and according to Thinking Pinoy, the case of CBCP vs Duterte is nothing more than just a classic case of ‘pot calling the kettle black.'
