Atty. Rivera: WE HAVE BEEN GETTING CRAPPY GOVERNANCE IN THE PAST.
In a Facebook post of Atty. Bruce Rivera, he cited some of the bad news he read about President Rodrigo Duterte being reported from all channels in the social media.
Some of the news he mentioned are about the UN rapporteur telling the whole world that the conditions of President Duterte is unacceptable. The Fentanyl issue painting Duterte as if he is incoherent and addicted, etc etc.
Atty. Rivera also mentioned some of the accomplishments of Duterte even though his administration is already lacking of funds.
However, Atty. Rivera said that those accomplishments are not achievements. He said, "These is how government should work if the money it has is used for its intended purpose. Duterte merely spent the money on the Filipino people. Nothing really special. Just honest governance."
On his final note, he said that if Duterte accomplished ordinary things for just only 6 months and without enough funds "that the past administration is not even close to doing then...WE HAVE BEEN GETTING CRAPPY GOVERNANCE IN THE PAST."

LET ME STATE THE NOT-SO-OBVIOUS
As expected, I woke up to flurry of bad news from all channels. I guess in the new world order, bad news sells and good news are reserved for the "poor little rich bitches". So I read about the UN rapporteur telling the world the conditions for the visit to our country is unacceptable, as if it is cast in stone and Yasay cannot change it. Fentanyl has come out of obscurity to give paracetamol a run for its money. Painting the President as if he is a junkie, incoherent and addicted. Just because he suffers from chronic pain, they want him to suffer even more. We have the Global Thinker trying to be the persecuted damsel in distress in the international arena. And of course, the usual fare of rhetorical misgivings thanks in part to the art of literary condensation coupled with the journalisatic genius of the Philippine media.
So I will just tell you what is not obvious.
When Duterte assumed office, he found the government coffers already lacking of funds. In fact, what was left was enough to merely put the wheels of government in motion. Operation expenses, so to speak. In an ordinary leadership (Pnoy is the most ordinary, Cory is second), we would not be expecting anything substantial. Let me tell you what this government has done with the little that they had:
1. Pagcor was able to give P2,000,000,000.00 for free medicine
2. Yolanda victims had their houses built or at least part of it
3. A drug rehab facility that can house 10,000 addicts
4. P8,000,000,000.00 budget for free education in the State Universities and Colleges
5. Our ability to host the Miss Universe
6. Balikbayan boxes will no longer be taxed despite our need for revenue
7. A 7.1% increase in economy brought about by increased infrastructure spending
And many of you will say, yeah. Rub it in. The achievements of an extremist leader. But let me make it clear. THESE ARE NOT ACHIEVEMENTS.
These is how government should work if the money it has is used for its intended purpose. Duterte merely spent the money on the Filipino people. Nothing really special. Just honest governance.
So what is the not-so-obvious news here? His critics will say, he is not special. But what we would have discovered is that if our President, in six months time and with the handicap of lack of funds can do ordinary things that the past administration is not even close to doing then...
WE HAVE BEEN GETTING CRAPPY GOVERNANCE IN THE PAST.
Now, that should be news.
