Paolo Duterte on Marawi explosion: The message of the attack was clear and it targeted my father
Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte said that the IED explosion in Marawi City was meant to send a message to his father, President Rodrigo Duterte.
According to GMA News Online, 9 soldiers including 7 members of the presidential security group were wounded after the explosion happened Tuesday, November 29.
"The message of the attack was clear and it targeted my father and his administration. It was meant to terrorize the government and the Filipino people," Vice Mayor Duterte said.
Paolo said the attack was meant to destroy the government's peace efforts and development initiatives in Mindanao and in the whole country.
"The enemies of peace and meaningful change are out on a rampage now that the Duterte administration's peace and development efforts are rapidly gaining momentum in Mindanao and many other parts of the country," Vice Mayor Duterte said.
"There are groups who are not happy about what's happening now," he added.
"We have to be at all times vigilant because there are still people and groups who are out to destablize our government and terrorize the Filipino people," he said.
Meanwhile, President Duterte said he would still visit Marawi City despite what happened.
"There's trouble there in Mindanao. It is within control but it is a troublesome thing. So I have to fly [there] tomorrow," Duterte said.
“The advice was to postpone but I said no. I'll go there, and if possible take the same route," he added.
