"Politically, he will have to be held to account for this decision. [Of] course the Supreme Court allowed it, did not rule against him, and therefore that provided the opening for this to happen," Pangilinan said.
Despite this, Pangilinan believes that Duterte can change what happened if people protest together.
"'Pag ang taumbayan ay ipamalas, effectively ang kanilang pagtutol at protesta, baka magbago isip ni Presidente Duterte and marami namang pagkakataon, nagbabago naman ang isip niya sa ilang patakaran, so let's see," Pangilinan said.
As a new president of Liberal Party (LP), Pangilinan said that they will continue to support Duterte.
"There are initiatives of this administration that are worthy of our support. The peace initiatives, for example. The issue of the 'endo' (end of contract), how do we protect and ensure tenure for our workers, that is something that we will support," he said.
"But there are issues also that we are critical of, and this is one of them. Kami naman, hindi naman kami administration right or wrong, tsaka hindi naman dapat ganun ang sinuman," Pangilinan added.
Pangilinan also said the LP will support groups who will file the necessary petitions.

"Maaring nakalibing siya ngayon doon, pero hindi sila nakakatiyak na mananatili siyang nakalibing doon dahil kikilos tayo sa abot ng ating makakaya na iwasto itong hindi tamang pangyayari," he said.
"We will have to undo this injustice that has been inflicted upon the victims of Martial Law in our nation," Pangilinan added.
