When President Duterte announced the separation of the Philippines from the US, he said that he was defending the country's "dignity."
"Mr Obama, what went wrong? Get your dictionary. Find out the right meaning of dignity," he said.
Duterte hit the US again for threatening to cut foreign aid due to the alleged extrajudicial killings and reiterated that the Philippines would survive even without the financial help from the United States.
Duterte described the US treatment as "he and the Filipino people are like a dog on a leash, with the master – the US – throwing crumbs or treats from a distance."
