According to CNN Philippines, Thursday, September 22, 20 members of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) surrendered to the Armed Forces in Sumisip, Basilan because they fear for their lives.

Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) said that the members of ASG who surrendered to 104th Brigade, under Col. Thomas Donato, Jr. and Mayor Gulam Boy Hattaman were said to be under the sub-leader Katatong Balaman (alias Tatong).

"This is the result of the relentless operation we are conducting where they suffered lots of casualties. We are very open for surrenderees. We want to end this war in peace and pave the way for development in Basilan," Donato said.

Eight heavy firearms and two improvise shotguns were also surrendered by the group. 

Local authorities said that there were still other members who wants to surrender.


"It's time to end this terrorist problem in our country. We want to make Basilan a peaceful place to live so that development will prosper. We are closely working with the AFP to decimate all these terrorist groups," Mayor Hattaman said.
